Wednesday 9th February

6.30pm. Jane is very peaceful; Lydia and Leo and her mother and brother are with her too. I have come home to write this and read your emails and pick up phone messages. It has been a day when we all have shed tears. Jane is a little weaker now. She still responds but less frequently and for shorter periods. Andrew Cullis, the rector of St Paul's came and said prayers this morning for a short while; Jane was awake enough to acknowledge him and thank him - what an amazing woman she is - we all know it but I have to say it here again. As I write, I cannot imagine a life without her now.

You have written, phoned and texted from all over the country and all over the world; Cyprus, NZ, Canada, Dubai and so on. Each of your messages has meant a huge amount to each of us and provides wonderful support at a difficult time.

We, the family, will have a meal this evening at one of Jane's favourite restaurants and then Leo and I will be back at the hospice.

God bless you and we thank you.

Dear Peter and Jane, I missed just a couple of days of your blog and so much has happened. We continue to pray for you both and for the family, for God's peace to be manifest. We never give up praying for healing and God is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. He's there with you all by His Spirit, to comfort and give you peace. I'm so sorry I didn't get together with Jane to show her the Hakedahl School staff photos - maybe we can get together and I'll show you, Peter! Our love and His blessings, Jacqui and Bob (Gillan)

Feeling so sad, but trying to focus on remembering when my life started with Jane - such laughter, such love and such a love of life. Over 40 years of knowing her, I don't think we ever had one cross word.
I pray that God holds you all in his loving arms and that you may all be warmed by the love that is being sent to you

Don't know what to say, Peter.
Just that it's clear that there are so many of us who love you and Jane - and that we shall be here for you all, whenever you need us.
I wish you all a time of peace and love.

Everyone suddenly burst out singing;
And I was filled with such delight
As prison'd birds must find in freedom
Winging wildly across the white
Orchards and dark-green fields;on;on;and out of sight.

Everyone's voice was suddenly lifted,
And beauty came like the setting sun.
My heart was shaken with tears; and sadness
Drifted away...O but every one
Was a bird; and the song was wordless; the singing will never be done.

Siegfried Sassoon. 1886-1967
